Yakutia to become the main supplier of gas to China

The Chayandinskoe field in southern Yakutia will provide up to 70% of Russian gas exports to China for 30 years. The order of priority deliveries from Chayanda to China recently was signed by Chairman of "Gazprom" Alexey Miller. This decision and, in general, gas bins of South Yakutia, as stated recently Acting Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Egor Borisov, "will be the basis for the integrated development of the region and expanding economic presence of Russia in foreign Asia".

For deliveries to China the Chayandinskoe field received priority over Kovykta in the Irkutsk region.Deliveries will go through “The Power of Siberia” line (which is over 1,500 km) - from Chayanda to Blagoveshchensk and further to China.   “This artery - said Egor Borisov, - is planned to be operational no later than in 2018, and construction of the first “thread” will start in 2015”.With regard to the development of Chayanda, according to Egor Borisov, construction and start of production are scheduled, respectively, in 2015 and 2018.And in Blagoveshchensk at the same period, the facilities for gas processing will be constructed.

“Integrated development of energy and other resources of Yakutia - said Egor Borisov, - is included in several federal and regional programs.Their implementation will not only give impetus to the economy of the Siberian-Far-Eastern region, but also strengthen the position of Russia in the energy sector and, in general, in the economy of other Asia-Pacific countries”. It is about the development of large natural gas reserves, as well as diamonds, gold, oil, coal, and rare earth metals. Commercial production of these projects is expected by 2017-2021, that at least half of the total increase of domestic product of the region.

But, according to Egor Borisov, it is necessary to improve transport service of these projects, logistics. In Neryungri - near the junction of the BAM and the planned branch to Yakutsk – it is possible to construct a large metallurgical cluster”.It should have been created in the mid-1980s - said Borisov. -But today this project is still relevant in terms of industrialization of the economy and exports of the Far East of the Russian Federation”.

In connection with this, planned for the next 4-6 years the BAM branch to Yakutsk (about 300 km), the bridge across the Lena River (near Yakutsk) and expansion of the river port in Yakutsk are necessary for the development of Chayanda, the development of metallurgy in Neryungri and the majority of other resource projects in Yakutia. These hubs, according to the Acting Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), “form a powerful logistics cluster for the entire region”.

In addition, on the agenda there’s another project – Yakutsk – port Magadan railway (over 500 km). “This artery, - explained Egor Borisov, - will speed up the exploitation of mineral resources of Eastern Yakutia, Magadan region; expand the network of ports of the Russian Federation in the Far East. But such a project requires careful consideration”.
